A few of February events...

A Sunday school teachers' appreciation breakfast was held at Troyer's Dutch Heritage on Saturday, February 5th.  We are grateful for our caring team of teachers!

The youth missions team continued to raise funds for their coming Bahamas construction mission trip, serving a lunch for donations on February 6th and hosting a yard sale on the 19th.

SCC enjoyed the ministry of the "Rockingham male chorus" on Sunday, February 20th.  The kids loved the humorous special song just for them (below).

An annual SCC tradition, the "flock feasts" were shared throughout the month as various elders' shepherding groups got to know each other better over a carry in meal.

Community Egg Hunt Creates Smiles

You couldn't find a prettier location for an egg hunt than the "back forty" of our wooded ten-acre campus!

The hunt was enjoyed by all on Saturday, March 19th with many children from the neighborhood turning out with their parents to collect the more than 2000 eggs.

Thanks so much to the generous SCC folks who donated the eggs and treats, and to the Wednesday night SCC kids, for your help in filling them up!

And congratulations to door prize winner Andy, who took home the giant chocolate bunny!

Roman soldiers on horseback and ninety other costumed volunteers were joined by around 200 guests for a "visit" to the Bible times city of Jerusalem on Sunday evening, March 20th.

Sights to see included a Market Street teeming with merchants, "feasting and revelry" in Herod's Palace, the shepherd's field (petting zoo and pony rides), a peaceful reenactment of the Last Supper, Pilate's praetorium headquarters, Golgotha (complete with a earthquake at the foot of the cross), and most importantly the empty tomb!

The kids loved the sweet animals in the petting zoo and pony rides, and had fun squishing grapes with their toes in the winepress and grinding barley with a hand mill, while adult visitors described the experience as both worshipful and educational.

It was an enjoyable evening as we celebrated Christ's resurrection together!

Upgrades Continue for SCC Campus

The church facilities are receiving a spring facelift!  Thanks so much to the many dedicated volunteers who completed these projects with TLC:

Painting of Camp Sonshine exterior...

Construction of permanent seating in our beautiful wooded campfire area, just in time for the sunrise service...

Trim repair on the "O.P." (old parsonage!)...

Several upgrades of the children's playground...

Improved parking lot lighting and signage, including courtesy spaces for new and expecting moms as well as an increased number of spots designated for first time guests and the disabled...

And a beautiful replanting of the garden in the worship center entry way, in memory of Ron Josten.

Summer Camp Fun

This summer many of SCC's young people and adult volunteers enjoyed summer camp programs at Lake Aurora Christian Camp.  Photos below are from the week of June 19th:

Worship Minister Found!

In early August the church was excited to meet with prospective staff member Ray Jester, his wife Jody and their adorable baby Asa!  A congregational vote was held on Sunday, August 28th and the church voted overwhelmingly to add Ray to the church staff as worship minister.  We look forward to welcoming the Jesters to our church family in October.

Katrina Help Given

SCC members responded generously to a special offering taken the Sunday following Katrina's devastation; funds were sent to I.D.E.S., a reputable disaster relief ministry.  (Click here to read about some of the ways I.D.E.S. dispersed these funds.)

New Service Off and Running

The new 9:30 am Sunday worship service got off to a great start in September, with Ryan Sudsberry bringing the message and members of the student ministry worship team leading in worship through music.  The 8:00 am and 11:00 am services at their new times remain strong as well as SCC seeks to share God's word and His love with our community.

Students "Support Our Soldiers"

ROTC students from SCC helped collect cash donations and hundreds of items for "Operation S.O.S. -- Support Our Soldiers."  The program was a partnership of local churches, the ROTC and the GTE Federal Credit Union to show appreciation to our nation's troops with Christmas gift boxes.

2005 Business Meeting Held

On Sunday, October 30th the church gathered and voted its approval of two new deacons, Jonathan Curtis and Richard Stayton, and a returning deacon, Michael Cordonnier.  The current leadership was also reaffirmed, and the 2006 budget was approved as we made plans together to make a difference in Sarasota.
